MedBasics review and Giveaway!!
>> April 13, 2009
I am the mama of a 10 month old, so you know what that means? She is into EVERYTHING!! I am constantly on the lookout for harmful things that my baby girl will get into! For instance eating the plants, or touching the hot oven, or falling and hitting her head....What do you do if/when these things happen? If you are a parent, grandparent, babysitter, or anyone around small children you too, I'm sure, have had these same fears. What do you do in an emergency? I know that I know what to do, but when something actually happens, will you freak out and forget everything??
There is a great product out called MedBasics~
MedBasics was created by a doctor dad, and a nurse mom. It contains vital information that walks you through your emergency. It has info on CPR, Choking, Fever, Bleeding, Burns, and Poison control. All the subjects are outlined with color coded tabs, for easy finding in chaos! It comes spiral bound, in a great durable case that will weather your baby's first year. The travel pack comes with a convenient break-away clip to hang on your stroller,or your diaper bag for when your out!

Founder Tara Summers-Hermann shares her personal story:"Accidents can happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime. For years I secretly believed I was somehow exempt from this- that accidents happened to the people who my husband cared for in the emergency department, to families on tv maybe but definitely not to me and my family. That belief unraveled when my first son Nicholas choked one day at lunch. Suddenly I was one of those people. I stood in front of my silent and cyanotic toddler in disbelief. Luckily because of my training as a RN I knew how to give him the Heimlich Maneuver. After several tries a soft piece of potato came out of his mouth, he started coughing and I started crying. This day changed my life forever. I could never again believe that "these things" don't happen to me. When I took that thought one step further I realized these things could also happen to my babysitter or my parents, they could happen at the park, in a car or on an airplane. It became clear to me that part of loving my baby was knowing what to do during emergencies and making sure everyone who cares for him does the same."
We recently went on a vacation to Florida, I had the MedBasics in our diaper bag at all times..at the beach, Disney World, our vacation house, it made me feel that my baby was safe because if something happened any of us would have known what to do! The baby MedBasics was designed for infants 0-12 months, but I can see using the poison information, burns, and bleeding for toddlers, and older children as well! I think this is neat and would be so handy for the "NEW" parents. You can just clip it onto the diaper bag and always have it right at hand.

It says "So easy anyone can use it". This is very important when there is a problem. It can go where my child goes.
I love that it's created by a doctor and nurse who are both parents. I love that pages within it are easy to access.

I like that MEDBASICS puts me in control in case an emergency arises, I don't have to wait for someone else to help me or tell me how to do something!
