My Body Belongs To Me

Thursday, April 09, 2009

As a mommy, it is my utmost fear that someone would harm my children. With that being said, sometimes we need to have those difficult conversations with them about strangers and inappropriate touching. It's a fine line that we need to walk. We need to let them know about dangers and how to respond to them without making them paranoid and worried.
When Jill contacted me about doing this review, I was excited to see how this topic was explained in a kid friendly manner. Last week, in my daughter's Pre-Kindergarten class they talked about Good Touch, Bad Touch. I gifted this book to my daughter's teacher. Here is what she had to say about it:

I loved this book!!! Sexual Abuse can be a difficult subject to discuss with preschool age children. If not handled in right way it can be very frightening.

This book is very age appropriate for preschool children with terms they can understand. There are several good books out there on this subject, but they are too advanced for younger children.

I like the fact that the children learn that NOTHING is so bad that they can’t tell their parents or a teacher. They also learn it’s not THEIR FAULT.

Jill’s book, “My Body Belongs to Me” addresses the subject in a gentle and comfortable way for not only the children, but for the parents or teacher. It provides a dialog to use when discussing good touches and bad touches.
