Tie Buddies

>> April 9, 2009

I would love to know the statistics of two right handed parents having two left handed children? That is exactly the case in our family. Teaching a left handed child how to do very basic things has proven to be quite a challenge. From holding her pencil correctly to learning how to tie her shoes. It takes extra thought on my part before I begin to instruct her. I have to think "backwards" so to speak.

On top of the fact that right handed mommy is teaching left handed Grace how to tie her shoes.....her little hands also have a difficult time maneuvering her shoelaces.

That's where Tie Buddies come into play. These truly innovative little things are designed to eliminate the need for small fingers to create loops or bunny ears when tying their shoelaces. Getting rid of this obstacle helps children learn how to tie their shoes at an earlier age. In a day where Velcro and slip on shoes are the norm....children are not learning how to independently tie their shoes until as late as 9 or 10 years old. Now kids as early as 3 can have the pleasure of doing something on their own....tie their shoes.

Tie Buddies™ was born in January 2007 by inventor and mother of two, Wendy Welling--she came up with several prototypes before perfecting tie buddies and helping her two small kids learn to tie their shoes.
By the way, my two right handed parents hand two left handed daughters--and this lefty had a right handed daughter--I kind of go blank sometimes when I have to teach her how to hold a baseball bat or use scissors--I think I'm going to make her wear Velcro shoes until she moves out of the house :)

My son is 7 and I am just now teaching him to tie laces. We have always purchased velcro or slip on shoes because of the ease. I was shocked to read kids aren't learning till ages 9 or 10! I need to get some of these for my 2 1/2 year old and 5 year old as well :)

Tie Buddies offer children ages 3-9 the independence of tying their own shoes while quickly teaching them a method which is based around characters and stories depicted on the Tie Buddies themselves.

Tie Buddies work by eliminating the “bunny-ears” or loops which cause much of the difficulty for children. They help children learn sooner and with better recall and method.
